GMP & API certified extraction plant. Our extraction plant meets the standards of Quality Control and Quality Assurance expected of companies that process medicinal plants into various extracts (liquid, tincture, and powder). The strict control and guidelines were required for a Certificate for Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) as well as for the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) rating for pharmaceutical products. We are the only Swedish company, and one of the few European extraction plants, that comply with the regulatory framework of GMP.
High tech quality control. SHI’s main production unit and extraction plant is located in Vallberga; this facility is equipped with the latest production technology. The company devotes great care and attention to quality control and quality assurance for all standard operation and all master formulas used in production. From the raw materials to the finished product, systematic controls and validation processes ensure the integrity of each manufactured product.
Soft technology processing
Extraction and processing of medicinal plants is not only a matter of obtaining a high yield of a particular substance. In most cases it is important to preserve a spectrum of substances, contributing to the total medicinal effect. This can sometimes be considered more of an art than a science – a “soft” technology must be applied. The approach uses low-temperature processing, short time exposure to high temperatures during evaporation, a careful choice of solvents, etc.
Preserving the spectrum of bioactive substances
Instead of isolating and purifying one single active substance, the issue is how to preserve the total spectrum of active and adjuvant substances during the processing of extracts, eliminating only those substances that do not contribute to the positive result. In rare cases this also requires elimination of possible harmful substances. |
